alright then, it's almost halloween
i'm not feeling it this year, for some reason. normally i LOVE halloween, put up decorations around my home and office, overdose on candy, dress up in some ridiculous costume, etc, etc... but not this year. (well, i did have black nailpolish on this week - and am using my "classy not trashy" skull-y purse - but i do that all the time anyways so i don't think that counts.)
i do, however, plan to watch lots of fun fall-ish movies this weekend, with some art journalling and perhaps some caramel apple cider thrown in for good measure.
hope everyone has a safe and happy, fun-filled halloween weekend!
p.s. i really really really love that photo! makes me want to run out and get another tattoo like NOW! (except not of bats, cuz they're yucky)

more pumpkins...
i can't seem to get enough of them these days!
check out this amazing-looking recipe.... this could definitely help me get up and out of bed during those dark and chilly mornings where you just want to stay warm and cozy under the covers (i just have to convince hubby to get up earlier to make it for me first - ha!)
Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal (from the Craftzine blog)
Ingredients:
1 cup old fashioned oats (not quick cook)
1 Tbs whole flax seeds (optional)
2½ Tbs brown sugar, packed
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp allspice
⅛ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp vanilla
½ tsp lemon zest
2 tsp butter, softened
¾ cup pumpkin puree
¾ cup milk
Topping:
¼ cup pecans, chopped
2 tsp butter, softened
1 Tbs brown sugar
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease 4 individual-sized ramekins. Set aside.
2. Combine the oats, flax seeds, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and salt in a medium-sized bowl. Stir well.
3. Zest the lemon.
4. In a separate bowl, combine the vanilla, lemon zest, butter, pumpkin, and milk. Whisk thoroughly. Pour the pumpkin mixture into the oat mixture. Stir until combined.
5. Divide the mixture evenly between 4 individual-sized ramekins. Place the ramekins on a baking sheet (this makes it easier to move in and out of the oven.). Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes.
6. Meanwhile, combine the ingredients for the topping: chopped pecans, butter, and brown sugar. After the oatmeal has baked for 10 minutes, remove and divide the topping mixture evenly between the ramekins. Bake an additional 7 minutes.
7. Cool for 5 minutes before serving. Top with a splash of milk and raisins, if desired.
Enjoy!

i was recently reminded how much i love vintage pyrex. it's so pretty! unfortunately (or fortunately) i can never seem to find any nice sets here in kelowna, and the only time i see them online, they either don't ship to canada or they do but for so much money it's not worth it at all.
but, i can always web-window shop, it's still just as fun...

dear october...
so far you are my favourite month of the year....
i love how the air smells
how the food tastes
how the trees look
how the leaves sound
how the rain feels.
p.s. here are some recent snaps from my Daily Photo project...

calendars
last year, as a christmas present to myself and for a friend, i purchased a couple of these sweet letterpress calendars from Ilee, on Etsy. i keep on my desk at work and i seriously love it so much i have to restrain myself from flipping over to the next month a few days in advance. it was, and probably still is, one of my most favourite Etsy purchases of the year. so, of course i want to get another one for my desk for 2010 but now i've found even more pretty calendars and i can't decide. here are a few that i'm admiring so far...

from Peony Paperie

from up up creative

from Missing Q Press
and of course from Ilee Papergoodsi'm leaning more towards the last two... but... i could just get one of each so i can decide once i see them in person, and then give the others as christmas presents! i've got to start shopping soon anyways, and whetever gifts i do buy (i'm hoping to make most of them) will most definitely be handmade, likely from Etsy.
happy tuesday!
